Top Nootropics: Discover the Top 10 Nootropics

Top Nootropics Reviewed

Nootropics. Weird name, right? Believe it or not, you may have used a nootropic before without even knowing it!

If you work in a competitive business or are in college, chances are you’ve taken caffeine either in coffee, energy drinks, or supplement form. Caffeine is the world’s most widely-used and recognized nootropic.

Of course that does not mean it is the most effective. Many individuals are just simply unaware that there are better ways to focus while working or studying. What’s more, nootropics are able to unlock your cognitive potential!

So What Are Nootropics?

This unlocking does not mean you will suddenly find yourself in the premise of the movie Limitless, which brought nootropics to the attention of moviegoers everywhere. These aren’t magic powders to make you a genius. However, you may find you make connections more quickly, words flow more easily, and your motivation to get work done more readily available and longer lasting.

The word nootropic means “acting on the mind,” and that’s what these supplements are designed to do. They can enhance memory, cognitive function, and learning ability if taken correctly and at the right dosage.

There is a lot of information and misinformation available via the internet today concerning nootropics, especially when it comes to what is the best.

Top Nootropics

Below are the 10 top nootropics. This list is based on the effectiveness of the nootropic as a whole, the efficiency of the nootropic’s performance, and its accessibility to consumers:

  1. Noopept – Noopept is a quasi-member of the racetam family of nootropics and one of the most potent nootropics of its kind. It’s available in capsules as well as bulk powder. It improves cognition and enhances all the senses as well as imparts a great sense of physical, mental, and emotional well-being.
  2. Aniracetam – Another member of the racetam family, aniracetam helps creativity, memory, and intelligence; it also has anti-stress properties. For many beginners looking for a first nootropic to buy, aniracetam comes highly recommended.
  3. Pramiracetam – Pramiracetam can brighten up the brain and is great for those who suffer from poor concentration. Pramiracetam works in synergy with various other cognitive-enhancing products, such as choline, and as such has a very potent effect.
  4. Sulbutiamine – This is a synthesized version of Vitamin B1 (Thiamin) that helps elevate mood. It passes the blood-brain barrier with relative ease and helps elevate mood.
  5. L-theanine  – Interestingly, this is a non-essential amino acid which is most commonly found in tea. It is particularly good to take before an exam or presentation as it lowers stress levels. In combination with caffeine, l-theanine can give a calm, focused energy.
  6. NALT – N-Acetyl L-Tyrosine or NALT is an excellent mood elevator which enhances well-being and combats mental fatigue.
  7. CDP Choline  – This supplement is excellent for brain and neural function. Many users opt to stack choline with racetams as racetams often use up acetylcholine within the brain which can sometimes cause headaches.
  8. Alpha GPC – Another form of choline, this is found naturally both in milk and in the brain and has a positive effect on cognition.
  9. Beta Phenylethylamine (PEA) – PEA or phenylethlamine is primarily used for mood and has an effect which you are very likely to recognize. You know those feel good vibes you get from eating chocolate? Well this works in the same way, just way more concentrated and enhanced! It also stacks well with aniracetam to boost cognition.
  10. Phosphatidylserine – This is found naturally within cell membranes. As a nootropic, it’s a brain booster and memory enhancer.

So there you have it, the top nootropics supplements on the market. This article should be enough to equip you with the information to research and to ascertain which one(s) are best and most suitable for you, your lifestyle, and, of course, your budget.

PEA and Hordenine Combo

PEA and Hordenine

Many people are looking for ways to not only lose weight but also reduce stress and just simply feel better. Certainly dieting is one way to go about this, but this can be incredibly difficulty. Having some all-natural help in the form of amino acid derivatives is something that could produce all of these benefits and more. Such is the case of PEA (Phenylethylamine) and Hordenine. These supplements are both all natural supplements that have shown to be very effective. After examining the benefits, this might be an excellent combination to support your own weight loss and feel-good efforts.

What is Phenylethylamine?

Simply put, a phenylethylamine supplement is derived from the amino acid phenylalanine. Occurring naturally in foods like chocolate, this is also known to have a mood-boosting effect that can lead to feelings of well-being and even euphoria. This is done by increasing dopamine levels within the brain along with blocking the action of other dopamine transmitters.

Phenylethylamine is also thought to be a natural fat burner and is capable of raising the metabolism. There are a number of dietary and weight loss supplements that now add this to their formulations in an effort to make themselves more effective. Dopamine also plays a strong role in movement and this may also be at least partially responsible for the increased energy levels.

What is Hordenine?

Hordenine is a natural phenylethylamine compound, although it is related to the amino acid tyramine. Its mechanism of action is slight different from PEA in that it stimulates the release of the powerful neurotransmitter norepinephrine. This also leads to higher levels of energy and an increased speed of metabolism. There is also some evidence to suggest that it may result in slowed digestion and an associated decrease in appetite.

PEA-Hordenine Benefits:

When taken together, the combination of PEA and Hordenine is a powerful weight loss and energy boosting supplement stack. Many users are already taking this as part of a pre-workout stack simply for the increased energy.

This combination is also very effective for overall fat loss. As the metabolism is sped up, this may also lead to a slightly higher body temperature, which makes it even more effective as a natural fat burner. When they are combined it is also thought that synergistic effects are produced. In other words, PEA and Hordenine together is more effective than it would be if they were each taken separately.

Hordenine and PEA (Phenylethylamine) Supplements

Falling in love or having a crush on someone can be a very powerful feeling. The exhilarating rush makes everything else seem insignificant.

An often overlooked part of the whole idea, especially when you’re in the middle of the emotions, is that the rush is all a result of a chemical cocktail mixed by the brain.

Even though it’s more fun to get the chemicals flowing naturally, two supplements, the PEA Hordenine combo, can help mimic the same euphoria felt with that kind of intense happiness while improving brain function, boosting physical performance, and also helping you burn fat.

PEA Phenylethylamine Supplement Benefits

Phenylethylamine (also known by the much easier to pronounce acronym ‘PEA’) is a natural alkaloid found throughout nature in animals and plants. It is a neuromodulator and neurotransmitter.  Individuals often use PEA as a dietary supplement to boost mood and energy. When metabolized, PEA acts similarly to an amphetamine by releasing a special mix of the endorphins norepinephrine and dopamine and speeding up the flow between nerve cells.

Due to this, it’s come to be known as the “love molecule” or an infatuation inducing stimulant and creates the high or euphoria felt when in love. There seems to be an optimal range of PEA within the body as people who have problems focusing their attention often have low levels of PEA, while people with certain psychological issues often have abnormally high levels.

If PEA sounds like it’s too good to be true, that’s because it is. When used alone, PEA is quickly made inactive by monoamine oxidase (MAO). This means very little reaches the brain and even if it does, the effects don’t last very long.

Phenylethylamine Hordenine Benefits

This is where hordenine comes in. Hordenine is an alkaloid extracted from specific type of cactus and in the class of PEA-related chemicals. It also affects levels of norepinephrine within the body and is used as a stand alone supplement for energy, weight loss, body composition, and improved cognitive function.

But when it relates to PEA, the most sought after effects of hordenine are for it acting as an MAO inhibitor. Since MAO quickly breaks down PEA when it’s metabolized, the effects are short lasting. But when combined with the MAOI-like effects of a supplement like hordenine, the positive feelings from PEA can carry on much longer and possibly be amplified.

While the chemical effects of stacking hordenine phenylethylamine are the same, they benefit users in a variety of ways from a planned euphoria during social events on the weekends to energetic, focused workouts. The main uses of PEA/Hordenine are:

  • Induce a positive mood
  • General euphoric feelings
  • Focus and concentration
  • Energy before a workout
  • Fat loss (Stimulant)

If you are interested in testing out a combo of hordenine phenylethylamine, especially if you’re mixing bulk powders, you will likely have to experiment to find the dosage that works best for you. Some users like to take 15-30mg of Hordenine with 300-500mg PEA.

As always, it’s best to start on the lower end of the dosage spectrum and slowly work up from there. You can find both PEA and Hordenine at PowderCity.

Chasing the PEA Dragon: An Uncomfortable Euphoria

DMAA Powder Stack

Awhile back, I was looking for quality DMAA powder (a stimulant in Jack3d that gives you great energy) and I came across a mix consisting of Caffeine, DMAA, Hordenine, and Phenylethylamine. Usually when I come across something like this, I quickly disregard it because it has all the “extras” while I’m trying to find an isolated solution. I had never even heard of Hordenine or PEA (Phenylethylamine) but when I read some of the reviews, people were continually blown away by the combination and that it was the best energy they’ve ever had. So now I was curious and decided to do a little research.

I learned about MAOIs (Monoamine oxidase inhibitors) and how there are enzymes in the brain that destroy certain neurotransmitters. Hordenine acts as a temporary MAOI to allow PEA (and even Caffeine and DMAA supplement to an extent) to pass through the brain blood barrier without being metabolized. To put it simply, Hordenine makes the other three ingredients significantly more potent.

So I ordered the energy stack from HSW and when I got it, I decided to take it all at the maximum recommended dose. What followed was what I can best describe as an uncomfortable euphoria. Fortunately, that night I decided to log how the day went:

“After 25 minutes I started feeling really happy. I ran out to my roommate’s car as he was leaving for work and explained that my new stack was working. But then it all went downhill once I got back inside. I had to lie in bed, and I was essentially staring at the ceiling needing to consciously breathe, and I was noting my heartbeat. For the most part I didn’t move. Maybe 20 minutes later of staring up at the ceiling, I got myself up and went to take an ice cold shower. I was freaking out pretty bad and the thoughts of ODing and needing to call 911 were always on my mind.

About 30 minutes later, I went climbing (at an indoor bouldering gym) with my friend: “…I started climbing. I got way into it and it turned out to be my best climbing session ever. I got routes that I had never been able to do before. If I had to guess, the short ‘High’ that PEA gave finally wore off and the caffeine and DMAA were finally able to help me climb.”

So while I did experience the energy boost others reported, the uncomfortable euphoria is certainly worth noting. Users should start low with this stack and work their way up to suitable levels.

Greater focus with Craze

weight-lifting-for-beginnersWhat a Gift!

I received a free sample of DS Craze supplement from Health Supplement Wholesalers this weekend because I was curious on its effects inside and out of the gym. The grape flavor was artificial, but the effects were great. Within 30 minutes, I felt energized, focused, and ready to lift some weight.

Back off the Caffeine

One thing I love about Craze is its caffeine content. Many preworkout mixes out there are loaded with caffeine (giving a good result), however this leads to tolerance, which leads to multiple scoops for effectiveness (rather than the recommended 1 scoop) and more product is sold. Craze only has ~80mg of caffeine per scoop, which is roughly what a cup of coffee is. However, you will soon notice that the effects are much more prominent than just a single cup of coffee.

PEA’s Many Forms

It’s strange however: Craze has different forms of Phenylethylamine (PEA).

Taken in any other form, PEA is one of my least favorite experiences and is almost instantly noticeable, but I have yet to feel the same negative effects from Craze. This is most likely due to the many forms PEA takes on in Craze. It’s incredible that a single product can be broken down into so many different forms.

It also might be due to the lack of MAOI (inhibitor) that largely pronounces the effects of PEA — though I am skeptical because if I had to guess, a large percentage of Craze’s “Kinesis Proprietary Blend” is PEA, and it is widely known that when taken alone, PEA is ineffective. It is also known that even with some sort of inhibitor, PEA is very short-lived in the brain which might create a semi-placebo effect in the gym.

In the first 30 minutes, PEA is the most pronounced, but it is also in those same 30 minutes that one is waiting to go to the gym. Probably before you even hit halfway through your gym workout, PEA will have mostly worn off leaving you with the small amount of caffeine and other stimulants in the blend.

Craze as a Nootropic

One of the reasons I wanted to try Craze is because I’ve heard of many people on nootropic forums using Craze as a nootropic. It doesn’t include any racetams or traditional nootropics (except caffeine), but it’s still largely effective for focus. It also includes Creatine (no doubt for the exercise benefits) but Creatine is also shown to be largely effective as a nootropic. I’ll be sure to keep this one for my late-night study sessions and gym workouts.
